Charleston Senior Trip: A Destination Experience With Our Senior Team

This year, I introduced something incredibly special to my Senior Team: a destination senior trip. As a senior destination photographer, my heart is always focused on creating meaningful, unforgettable experiences for teens — the kind they will carry with them long after senior year ends.
Last month, we traveled to Charleston, SC, and even though a nor’easter rolled through that weekend, nothing could stop these seniors from making memories they’ll never forget.
A Nor’easter, Flexibility, and a Whole Lot of Fun
When you photograph seniors on location, anything can happen — and this trip was the perfect example. But being a North Carolina senior photographer for so many years has taught me that sometimes unexpected weather creates the most genuine and joyful moments.
The storm didn’t slow us down. Instead, it gave us the chance to pivot, laugh, and embrace the adventure.
The girls arrived ready for anything, and their attitudes made the entire weekend absolutely unforgettable.
Exploring Charleston, SC: Our Destination Weekend Highlights
Despite the weather, we explored some of the most iconic and breathtaking spots in Charleston, SC — each one giving us unique opportunities for stunning senior portraits filled with personality and emotion.
🌙 Shem Creek – Our First Evening
We started our weekend at Shem Creek, soaking in the marsh views as soon as we arrived in Charleston. Even under stormy skies, this location set the tone for a weekend full of beauty and adventure.
🌿 Cypress Gardens – A Morning to Remember
The following morning, we visited Cypress Gardens. With its mossy trees and peaceful water, it was the perfect backdrop for dreamy, natural senior portraits that the girls absolutely loved. Cypress Gardens is where part of The Notebook was filmed.
🌳 The Tunnel of Trees
This spot felt like stepping straight into a storybook. The rain left everything lush and vibrant — a bonus for a senior destination photographer looking for depth and texture in every image.
🏛️ Downtown Charleston
From cobblestone streets to pastel-colored buildings, downtown Charleston did not disappoint. Even in the rain, the charm of the city made every moment beautiful.
🍽️ A Memorable Lunch at Pooghan’s Porch
One of the highlights was lunch at Pooghan’s Porch, where the staff graciously allowed us to take photos on their balcony.
Why This Destination Trip Meant So Much
As a Raleigh senior photographer, I’ve witnessed how quickly senior year passes. Teens are navigating so many emotions — excitement, growth, transition — and giving them experiences like this creates deeper confidence and unforgettable memories.
This senior destination trip allowed the girls to bond, explore a new city, and be fully themselves in front of the camera. It’s exactly why I do what I do.
Gratitude for the Team That Made It Possible
This weekend would not have been successful without the support of the incredible moms who came along. Their help, encouragement, and flexibility made everything flow smoothly.
I also have to give a huge shoutout to Adrianna, who went above and beyond the entire trip. If you’ve seen my TikToks about how much she loves her job, you already know the energy and joy she brings to every session.

Being a North Carolina senior photographer, I know how much teens cherish the chance to do something unique during their senior year. Adding destination experiences allows them to create once-in-a-lifetime memories while capturing beautiful, personality-filled senior portraits in stunning locations like Charleston.
And after this first year, I can confidently say:
these trips are here to stay.
