Choosing One Word for Your Senior Year
Senior year only happens once, and it’s such a big milestone worth celebrating. As a Raleigh senior photographer, I spend so much time with teens capturing this season, and one thing I always encourage my seniors to do is pause for just a moment and think about what they want this year to look like.
That’s what I recently asked my senior team to do—set aside 10–15 quiet minutes for themselves. No phones, no distractions. Just space to breathe and reflect.

You can do this too. Find a spot that feels peaceful—maybe sitting on the porch with a cold lemonade or taking a short walk—and think about your year ahead. Ask yourself:
- What do I hope to accomplish this year?
- How do I want to feel when I look back at my senior portraits and remember this season?
- What memories do I want to create in my last year of high school?

Start Your Senior Year with Purpose — Tips from a Raleigh Senior Photographer
If you’re a person of faith, this can be a moment of prayer. If not, it can simply be a time to set intentions. What I’ve learned, both personally and through working with so many high school seniors in North Carolina, is that when we take time to set goals and be intentional, we’re much more likely to actually live them out.
This is your last year of high school—your best year. Don’t let it pass by on autopilot.

How Will You Define Your Senior Year?
💬 Here’s my challenge to you:
Choose one word to represent your senior year.
It could be:
- Confidence — walking into every day believing in yourself.
- Joy — finding happiness in the small moments that make up your story.
- Courage — trying new things and stepping boldly into the future.

Whatever word you choose, let it guide you through the ups and downs of this season. It will shape not just your mindset but also the way you remember your senior year when you look back at your NC senior portraits years from now.
Senior year isn’t just about finishing high school. It’s about stepping into who you are becoming. And as a North Carolina photographer, I can promise you—this is a chapter worth capturing, celebrating, and cherishing.
